Five questions to answer before paying
- What counts as a match? Write down your must-have skills and separate fixed-price and hourly thresholds. Ask how the product treats jobs with missing budgets or ambiguous scope.
- Where do opportunities go? Choose your delivery channel and check whether you can review matches later without relying on a notification history.
- What happens after discovery? Distinguish a notification, a draft, approval to act, and confirmed submission. An approval screenshot is not proof that an application was sent.
- Which accounts and permissions are required? Review each connection’s authorization screen. Confirm who can change filters, contact clients, or spend Connects.
- What does the complete workflow cost? Check the subscription, billing interval, cancellation terms, any separate AI access, and applicable Upwork costs. Do not compare subscription prices without considering the work each product performs.
A practical evaluation worksheet
Before enabling automated actions, choose a small set of job examples you can assess yourself. Record whether each matches your service, whether the budget is in the right units, what information is missing, and which action you would approve. Reuse the same examples when evaluating another tool. Do not turn this into a fake live-results benchmark: clearly label sample data and record the test conditions.

- Clarity: can you trace every claim back to the original listing?
