Upwork documents job search, proposals, client messages, and contract updates in its ChatGPT app. Connect it separately with your Upwork account.
- Set up your EarlyBird account, Basic subscription, skills, and budgets in My alerts.
- Use ChatGPT on the web with Developer mode access. OpenAI currently lists Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education; workspace controls may limit access. Check availability before subscribing for this feature.
- You also need your own Upwork account for its app. ChatGPT access and Upwork fees or Connects are separate from EarlyBird.
This streamlines discovery, comparison, and next steps. It does not promise autonomous project delivery or guaranteed work. EarlyBird itself cannot submit proposals.
Connect EarlyBird to ChatGPT.
- Enable Developer mode.
In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Security and login → Developer mode. If unavailable, check your plan and workspace permissions.
- Create your connection.
Open ChatGPT Plugins ↗, choose the plus button, and create a developer-mode app. Name it EarlyBird, paste the URL below, and select OAuth. Use automatic registration rather than entering your own client secret.

Use the same EarlyBird account you use here. Review read/write permissions on the EarlyBird authorization screen, approve, and return to ChatGPT. Never paste your password into a chat.
- Select EarlyBird in your chat.
Use the composer’s plus menu → Developer mode and select EarlyBird. Created connections appear under Drafts. Tools can be enabled or refreshed in the connection’s details.

Add Upwork’s own app.
- Find Upwork in ChatGPT’s app directory.
Search for Upwork, choose its official app, select Connect, and authorize your Upwork account.
- Use each connection for its job.
Ask EarlyBird for your filtered opportunity feed. Ask Upwork to verify a listing or handle supported Upwork actions. If both cannot be selected in your chat, use a separate chat with Upwork and paste the job’s original URL.
- Review before committing.
Check proposal text, the selected job, bid, and Connects cost before submission. Upwork says accepting an offer must be completed by you on upwork.com.

Fictional job examples demonstrate separate fixed-price and hourly comparisons, followed by a requested preference update. These are sample data, not live vacancies or evidence of a proposal submission.
Start with something simple.
Use EarlyBird to read my saved alert preferences, then show my recent job matches. Do not change anything.
Check that the returned skills and minimum budgets match your account. No jobs yet? Widen the time window or review your filters. An empty result does not necessarily mean the connection failed.
A routine you can copy.
These are prompts to run yourself, not scheduled automations. Attach the named connections, add your own context, and review the results.
Build a daily shortlist
Use EarlyBird to show my job matches from the last 24 hours. Pick up to five worth reviewing against my saved skills and budgets. Separate fixed-price budgets from hourly rates. Explain the fit and flag missing information. Do not change my alert settings.
Find the strongest fit
Use EarlyBird to compare my recent matches. Ask me about my availability and relevant portfolio examples first. For each job, show the deliverables, budget, questions to ask, and reasons to apply or pass. Use only facts from the job and information I provide.
Prepare a thoughtful application
Use EarlyBird to find a job I choose, then use the connected Upwork app to look up the same listing and confirm it is still open. If it cannot be matched, ask me for the original Upwork URL. Draft a tailored proposal using my real experience. Show the final text, job, bid, and Connects cost. Wait for my explicit approval before submitting. Do not boost it.
Refine your future alerts
Read my current EarlyBird alert preferences. Suggest changes based on the jobs I liked in this conversation. Show the proposed skills and separate fixed-price and hourly minimums before changing anything. After I approve, update only those settings and read them back.
Catch up on active work
Use the Upwork app to check my contract and milestone status. Summarize what needs my attention and draft any follow-up messages for me to review. Do not send messages or submit work without my approval.
Get back on track.
I can’t find Developer mode.
Check ChatGPT on the web and the current OpenAI instructions above. Your plan or workspace may restrict it. Your EarlyBird dashboard and email, Telegram, and Slack alerts still work without ChatGPT.
Sign-in failed or the connection expired.
Check that the server URL ends in /mcp and authentication is OAuth. Reconnect from ChatGPT using your existing EarlyBird account. Start authorization in ChatGPT rather than opening the consent URL directly.
ChatGPT isn’t using EarlyBird.
Attach EarlyBird to the conversation and name it explicitly in your prompt. Check that its tools are enabled in the connection details. Refresh the tool list if needed.
Can a match automatically become an Upwork application?
The connections are separate. Ask Upwork to resolve and verify the original listing. If it cannot, open the job on Upwork yourself. Review every application and its cost before approving.
Does disconnecting cancel my subscription?
No. Remove the connection in ChatGPT to stop using it there. Manage your EarlyBird subscription in Billing. Disconnecting does not erase content already returned in a conversation.
