← EarlyBird job alerts

A better Upwork job alert starts with a better filter.

A useful alert is one you would actually consider. Start with the kind of work you want to do, decide which budgets make sense for you, and choose a delivery channel you will check.

What are Upwork job alerts?

Job alerts bring new opportunities to your attention so you do not have to repeat the same search throughout the day. EarlyBird is an independent service that matches Upwork jobs to your selected skills and minimum fixed-price and hourly budgets, then delivers alerts through email, Telegram, or Slack.

An alert is a starting point for your own review. It is not an application, a recommendation to accept a client, or a guarantee that you will get the job.

1. Choose skills that describe your actual services

Think about what a client would hire you to deliver. If you design websites in Figma, start with relevant design skills instead of adding every technology you have encountered. EarlyBird allows between 1 and 20 skills. You do not need to fill all 20 slots.

A shorter list can make your intentions clearer. If the alerts feel too broad, revisit the skills. If you want to offer a new service, add the skills that genuinely match it.

2. Give fixed-price and hourly work separate minimums

A fixed-price project budget and an hourly rate measure different things. Set a minimum for each. In EarlyBird, these fields use whole-number USD amounts; enter 0 when you do not want a minimum.

FilterExampleWhat it expresses
Fixed-price minimum$500The smallest project budget you want to consider
Hourly minimum$30/hourThe lowest hourly rate you want to consider

These are illustrative amounts, not recommended rates. Consider your experience, the work involved, and your own business costs when choosing your minimums. A job’s advertised budget is only one part of evaluating it.

3. Put alerts somewhere you will use them

Email keeps alerts in your account inbox. Telegram can suit a routine centered on messaging. Slack can bring opportunities into your workday. EarlyBird supports all three, and you can use more than one channel.

Save your filters before opening a connector’s authorization flow. After returning, refresh the connection status in your settings. Switching off email does not disconnect Telegram or Slack.

4. Review the opportunity before applying

Read the original job on Upwork. Check the requested deliverables, timeline, budget, and the information available about the client. Decide whether you have relevant examples and enough context to write a specific application.
